MORE ABOUT US

We are a family of three people. Me- Gouri, My husband Dipen and my Son Supratik. All of us believe in living life to the fullest. We face hardships together, encourage each other in times of difficulty and try to keep our Spirits up.

A bit about me: I am Gouri Datta a Professor of Physics residing in New Delhi, India  My father was a Doctor in the Indian Army who was transferred every two years.  As we had to move with him, a certain nomadic way of life was imbibed in me right from my childhood days. My earliest memories as a little girl include living in different and varied cities, studying in seven different schools, making friends with different kinds of children and bidding tearful goodbyes… just as I was settling in. The initial years of my life has made me more adaptable to change,  generated an interest to discover the wonders of my country, India as well as  meeting and interacting with  diverse people.

After my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Physics from University of Calcutta, I completed my PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi on Solar Thermal Applications and then started teaching in University of Delhi and carrying out research at IIT. My research on Solar Energy led to visits for attending conferences in foreign countries. This foreign travel further ignited my lust for seeing the world. I started off in my endeavors by going for meetings, my husband would join me after my work was over and then we used to visit nearby places. In this way we saved on the price of an air ticket. Later when my son was older, around ten, he too would join us on our International Travels. Also working on my post doctorate fellowships in Sweden and Italy gave me a wonderful chance of touring Europe with family on a budget.

About my Son Supratik: A Commerce graduate from Delhi University and an MBA from ENPC, he has worked in Diverse Portfolios including heading teams in the world’s largest read English newspaper “The Times of India”, handled Marketing Head roles in Corporates and is presently involved in a Business Setup. A creative person with a passion for Music (Singing is his form of meditation), he loves travelling, reading, is a movie buff, gamer and appreciates gourmet food.

The last member of our group –the love of my life Dipen: He is an Electrical Engineer from Jadavpur University Calcutta who runs his own business. They do turnkey jobs, consultancy, energy and safety auditing etc. But even though he is a busy person, he is fun loving, a foodie and enjoys impromptu as well as planned holidays to any corner of the earth. Not the typical businessman at all!

I feel all three of us have a quirky side and are very different from a typical professor/scientist, corporate employee or businessman. We feel life is an adventure; we have one life and so much to do.

I recently retired and felt I would like to start a blog which not only tells our story but which may help you in your journey through life.

Everybody yearns for happiness, excitement, fun and love. This blog explores different aspects of life, gives you advice on travel, helps in easy cooking and talks about how to cope with life’s struggles. Come discover insights of life, fun things like food at home and outside, stories from which you can benefit. Whatever age you are find something exciting to do, travel to far off countries on a budget, learn the tricks of traveling safely and fearlessly. Enjoy your life!

WE DON'T NEED A REASON

WE TRAVEL AT THE DROP OF A HAT

We are impulsive people and often end up taking impromptu holidays. All it takes is the opportunity and the will.

One time, I remember us getting into our car to go to see a movie in Delhi, when suddenly I said “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to visit Nainital right now? The weather is perfect! And just like that Dipen said ‘”yes lets! I ran upstairs got some clothes and other essentials and lo and behold … we started driving to this hill station seven hours away!

WE ARE ALways geared up

ready for the next adventure

From visiting a Fort riddled with secret passages, travelling up ramparts in a vintage car or navigating our way through a lost city, the mystery beckons!

Be it riding atop an elephant in a dense jungle to catch a glimpse of the elusive tiger or camel back riding in the sand dunes of Rajasthan, river rafting in rapids or snorkelling in the clear waters of Andamans  and  Lakshadweep, we love the adrenalin rush!

One never quite knows what one may find around the corner! Hiking in Yellowstone National Park found us face to face with bisons and also a bear! That was quite an adventure !

WE Don't scare easily

nothing holds us back

Age or  Illness, Pain or Restrictions … Nothing really holds us back…. If there’s a way, we find it … and do what we have to do be out there and have a swell time! Even if it means working against odds.

From Plummeting down from the Highest Free Fall ride to navigating the highest Motorable road in the World, getting stuck in swampy land with wild elephants closing in or practically getting buried under snow while being trapped in our car to sampling  some crazy but disgusting food…Ewww!!! Our Life has been one crazy tale!

Time passes, people get older, things get more difficult….but the Spirit doesn’t seem to wane. We continue to draw inspiration from them wonderful couple from the PIXAR animation film “UP” and the lovely lines from it
